Msn messenger and 10.5.2 unable to login

Hi, I have this problem with two macs (macmini and macbook intel), both with same version 10.5.2 (and same problem since 10.5.2).

microsoft messsenger (msn) is unable to login (same apply to adium or any other if try to connect to messenger.hotmail.com 1863).

-------------------------

Firewall is disable. You get in the messenger log

2008/05/01 19:40:04.264 Login (0) failed with error: (7.0)

-----------------------

I run a TCP dump and you can see the packages go out to the router but you don't get an ACK status, only RST packets return.

Friends not using Leopard is not having problems with the same version of messenger 7.0 (and earliers).

Problem persists even if in other network (macbook connected to different networks and wireless) so problem is not in the router or ISP.

Is there anything that leopard might be blocking (or broke)..., running "dscacheutil -flushcache" doesn't help and nothing is blocking connections to that port as well as DNS is resolving fine to the right IP for messenger.hotmail.com.

Any one can give me a hint what could I try (without re-installing leopard)?

Any new ideas I could try to resolve the problem?

Thanks in advance

Macmini 2.0, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Just had a look and my connection details are similar and I can log in no probs. The main difference I can see is that mine is logging in via microsoft.net, (or rather the by1msg5146419.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com server), and yours is using hotmail.
A while back it MSN didn't allow me to log in one day. I got a Microsoft.net passport and all has been well since then.

I wonder why they use different domain...

I have been with this problem for some time..., and a friend with the same version and his macbook leopard can connect and mine not (in the same network).

I am going nuts.

also changing the DNS resolution from messenger.hotmail.com to messenger.live.com doesn't make any difference either

:o(

nah.. that's tried and no difference.

there must be something affecting the traffic to that port from another application (and not firewall).. that's my guess that makes the packets to be invalid.

Tried set up a proxy in the local machine which will force the originating socket to be different and no doesn't make any difference (only longer time in getting the error)

I have MSN 7 working on 10.5.2 with no special settings. I am even using Little Snitch for outgoing traffic and DoorStop X firewall for incoming traffic.

I have to disappoint you about the webcam functionality. It does not work for regular MSN accounts. It only seems to work with corporate MSN servers. I have not been able to try this.

So if you expected webcam functionality stop bothering with version 7. You might as well use AdiumX for regular MSN chats.

Ercan

Not sure if this problem is similar to my issue, my Messenger:Mac stopped working few days ago. I then upgraded it from version 6 to 7... without any success..

I have a log file;

Hi I have similar problems.
When connected to my home network Messenger 6.3 and 7.0 connect fine using both the Wifi and the Ethernet port.
However when connected to the office network the connection times out.

Moreover I also use Jbuddy messenger Pro, same problem works at home doen't work at the office.
At the office a pac file is used for the proxy settings.

When connect to the office network using Parallels (Windows XP) and MSN Messenger 4.7 in XP connection is ok.

Here cut-out from the log file.

This isn't a Leopard issue. I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11. I have the same problem with the official client (now Microsoft Messenger 7.0). Mac OS X firewall is off. Same errors in the log.

I have a router and NAT, but I believe ports are forwarded correctly.

MSN has worked on my setup in Adium using both the usual connection method and HTTP. Notably, only HTTP is working recently; I assumed this was because Microsoft changed something in the protocol, rather than something breaking in my setup.

The official client doesn't have an HTTP connection option that I can see.

Another option for is to use the clumsy but functional aMSN. aMSN provides for more MSN features than either Adium or the official client. aMSN does have an option to connect with HTTP (port 80).
