How do I remove the previous User ID from my Mac?

I bought my Mac from a previous owner who forgot their password to their user account. I am restricted from removing programs ETC. How do I remove their account and give me all administrative powers?

The first thing you should do, is to reset the previous user's Admin password.

You will find instructions here Changing your administrator password.

You will then be able to create a new Admin user, for yourself.
You should also consider performing an Erase & Install of the system.

Do you have the system discs?

My laptop is a Powerbook G4 running OSX 10.2.8

I want to upgrade to Tiger 10.4 and have system disks for a powerbook G4 that ran 10.4 before.

I tried to upgrade but the computer didn't allow me to (cannot install this OSX). I don't seem to have the system privilege.

I don't know if I should erase the HD and try and install the tiger 10.4

Capersaway!

You cannot use Model Specific system discs.

You need the original system discs that shipped with the Mac when manufactured, to reinstall Jaguar 10.2.x.
Contact the previous owner, and request that the discs be furnished.

You need the a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, to upgrade.

Or, if you call Apple Customer Service 1-800-767-2775, and furnish the Serial Number of the PowerBooK, you can order a replacement set of the original system discs.

If you call Apple Phone Sales 1-800-692-7753, you can purchase the Tiger 10.4.x discs.
