It's a known problem with a lot of iPhones. The screen is most likely bad.

I had the same issue with my phone just this weekend. the bottom strip just did not react to anything. The best thing to do is to make an appointment at the genius bar at an apple store near you. At the store they just checked the serial # and made sure the issue was the dead spot on the screen. I got a new iphone and she activated it instantly. Plus i tunes automatically saves your personal setting, so when i got home and plugged it in to itunes, everything was back to the way i had it(contacts, and all my notes as well). I was so amazed on the hassle free service that i completely forgot how annoying that dead spot was.

Good service at the Roosevelt Field Mall Store in New York! Looking to upgrade my iMac and waiting for that new iphone i keep hearing about!!!

Standard troubleshooting steps in order are; power your iPhone off and on, Reset, Restore.

If none of these steps taken in order resolve the problem, time to give AppleCare a call (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

When calling technical support about a phone, you don't want to call from the phone that needs technical support.

If you don't have a landline at home, does the same apply where you work? How about a neighbor, relative, or a pay phone?

I'm sure you have access to another phone.
