Equations

How do you guys deal with equations, and things like subscripts? I couldnt even enter in a basic chemical equation in my chemistry assignment the other night. If i copy equations with subscripts from a website i could always paste them straight into word, you cant do this with pages. Is there a font i need or something?

MisterChrister,

You can paste graphics of scientific formulas into Pages. I think that you will find that if you format the graphic as Floating it will be easier to manage the placement. OS X includes a nifty expression writer in Grapher.app (in the Utilities folder), with which you can create and then copy the expression for placement into Pages. Simple Subscripts and Superscripts can be accomplished with special fonts or by selecting Format > Font > Baseline > Superscript (or Subscript).

Hope this helps.

Open Character Palette (Special Characters).
In the search field on the bottom, enter 2192.
Select the arrow → (and not the Chinese character 迭 obviously).
Expand the section Font Variation.

And you should have a list of all fonts containing right arrow.

For equations you could try MathType, which gives you a 30 days evaluation. That will then turn into a "Lite" version which seems to be free.

Thanks for helping with the equations in Grapher.app. However, when I try to use Superscript (or Subscript), Format >Font>Baseline>Superscript (or Subscript), it is gray!!! I try highlighted, not highlighted and still the same. What's the deal?

Normal, in the Formula editor, we don't enter superscript from the font menu but from the "Equation Palette".
