Are LaTex Fonts available as Truetype?

I'm starting with LaTeX (love Latexit) and I wanted documents to have a consistent look.
I was wondering if the TeX fonts can be installed as truetype (or whatever format) so they can be used by other applications (they are sufficiently different from Times that it would be nice(esp. italics)).

Thanks!
