Unable to connect to wi-fi

Just got an I pod touch, and want to connect it to my wifi connection - have a netcomm NB5plus4W wireless router connected to a pc running xp. I do the following
go Settings - wi-fi is (not connected) click that - where it says choose a network, there are two options, my home network and "other...". my home one is locked, and so i click the arrow to expand into that one. i then get a page with "ip address" DHCP, BootP, Static. and under that, ip address, subnet mask, router, DNS, search domains, client ID, (information can seem to only be entered in to DNS, search domains and client ID fields) and below that ... HTTP proxy, off, manual, auto.

Can someone tell me how to configure this? Would be much appreciated. I've spent hours and much frustration to no avail.

PC, Windows XP

when you say entering the encryption password key, i thought you meant the wep key, which is in the router settings and on the bottom of my modem, i entered that and the password failed. I then tried my router password, and it seems to have worked ... i think. my wifi network in the ipod seems to be selected now, but when i go to use the safari browser, i get an error cant find the server. which leaves me to suspect that its not connected like i think it is, or somethings blocking something somewhere ...

Any ideas? I appreciate your guys help.

You should tap the network name and then enter the WEP key. If you have 40bit WEP this will be a 5 character ASCII password or 10 char hex key. For 128bit WEP it will be a 13 character ASCII password or 26 char hex key. You may need to put a $ in front of the key to get it to work.

Preferably change the encryption to WPA which is more secure and can use any password.

EDIT. Ah well you will only need to enter it correctly once, the +iPod touch+ will remember it after that.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Is this your own wireless router? Have you checked the router settings? You should tap the SSID from the list (or tap other and enter it if you aren't broadcasting the SSID) and then enter the WEP key (password) when prompted. Does your WEP password conform to the details in my earlier post?

cheers
