Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

When does Apple usually announce new products?

Is it safe to buy an Apple Display now? Or are they possibly going to announce new products soon, which may include a new Apple Display? Isn't there some event coming up where new products are usually announced?

Also, if you buy an Apple Display now, you are basically buying a 2004 model, right? Has anything changed in the 2004 model up until now?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro 15", 2.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Santa Rosa, Mac OS X (10.5.2), running Vista 32-bit on Fusion

A few people have suggested that Apple may announce a few new things at the Developers Convention coming up but of course Apple hasn't given any hints on that for now so we can't possibly know when new models are coming out.

I bought one a week ago and want to get a second one but I will wait till the summer is over in case a new one comes out.

In 2006, there was a revision to the ACD and was never announced.

Check this out in Apple store there is no more picture of the display showing, you have to look in the left window to see Display, that is US store. In Canadian Apple store no more picture showing and no more Display available in the left window, hum that tell me we have a surprised at MacWorld in June
Have a nice day

It used to be that most new products were announced at the trade shows like Macworld. But recently, Apple started telling everyone not to expect that so much in the future. Sometimes they have "Special Events" like they do for iPod products. But you can't even count on that. Some rumor web sites keep an eye out for Tuesdays, because a lot of product updates seem to be announced on Tuesdays.

But all of this is completely worthless for the Cinema Displays. They are so long overdue for an update that all previous guesses as to the "upcoming announcement" have been wrong by a mile. We have been waiting for months, or years. Any speculation about possible upcoming dates isn't going to be any better than it has been in the past unless there is evidence too obvious to ignore, and there isn't any of that.

The Cinema Displays have entered that twilight zone of products that have been up for an update "next month".......for the last several years.

If I were shopping for an LCD monitor and needed it now, I would seriously evaluate brands other than Apple (i.e., NEC, Eizo...) which have updated models, panels, and feature sets.

As you may know, speculating on new releases is against the forum terms off use. However, it would seem reasonable to presume that the "disappearance" of the current lineup of displays from a prominent position on the Apple web site would indicate that either:
A) New displays will be forthcoming or
B) Apple is no longer very concerned about producing "state of the art" displays.

Which of these is the case is anyone's guess...... It is interesting to note that every other product in the Apple line up has seen at least several revisions and/or upgrades in the last four years while the displays have remained pretty much static.....
