Repair Permissions Question

I bought my Mini in May and have not really used it much.
(still using the manuals) Yesterday, I bought an iPod shuffle and in the process of setting it up, used the installation disk that came with it. The installation disk included an update to iTunes. This morning I realized that I forgot to repair permissions before and after the installation process. Is it too late to repair permissions now? Should I be concerned about possible negative consequences?

Hi

I wouldn't get too worried about repairing permissions before and after an update to an application. Some people recommend doing it before and after a system update (ie, from 10.4 to 10.4.1), but personally, I don't always do that. You can repair your permissions at any time - there should be no negative consequences from waiting.

Im sort of hi-jacking the original post here, but for some reason whenever I run repair permissions it always finds the same 2, 1 is widgets and the other has php in the file name, each time it says permissions repaird only for them to appear next time I run the utility, is this normal?

Gareth, that's normal and not something to worry about. There was a tech-support document issued on it to explain 2 or 3 months ago I think, but I can't find it.

Actually this always happens to me too, but the message says that Disk Utility "uses special permissions" for whichever directory or file. It does not say that permissions are Repaired at all. It is probably an informative message explaining that the right permissions are different than they were before - probably after an OS update or something.

As far as I know, everyone is experiencing these non-issues.
