G4 Cube - Disc will not eject

I just tried to insert a Tiger DVD to install on the cube's HD. (Does a Cube even read DVD's?) Now, it doesn't appear on the Desktop, and holding down the mouse while restarting does not eject it.

Anyone know how to get this thing out of there?

Thanks 🙂

Hi, Jeffrey -

Try this... If it is on, shut the Cube down. Then boot the machine, immediately press the Option key, keep it held down. This should bring up Startup Manager, a blue screen with a few icons on it. Once that has loaded, press the key combo Command-. (Command-periodkey) - this instructs the Mac to open the CD tray on those machines with one, and should cause the ejection of a disk in a machine without a tray.

If that does not work, try a manual removal. With the machine shut down, use a thin strip of plastic (like a flat, flexible ruler) or thin cardboard with double-sided sticky tape affixed to the end of it. Use the tape to snag the disk that's in the drive and ease it out. Even a credit card should be thin and long enough to do the job. Caution - if you get too rough, you can damage some of the drive's components.
