How to capture from P2 card
This is what I'd like to know: can I go straight from my camera via firewire400 to an external LaCie hard drive and bypass using a computer and get the files/footage transfered or can that only happen with a P2Store? If not, then I understand that I need to make sure I have Panasonic Mac P2 driver installed on my Mac computer and then transfer info via the firewire. Will the information transfer as a Quick Time file or will it show up as in the the tutorials as "Content" and "Lastclip.tx"? I'm working with FCP 2 Studio Suite. Also, will this transfer in "real time" or how long can I expect the transfer to take?
I'm coming from the work flow of using a Sony VX2100 camera where I was confident in capturing DV footage and editing. Will I have problems getting FCP to recognize this camera? I may have more questions later on as to what settings to use, that is 720p 24/30? My end result is for the Web, highest quality, small file size and possibly burn a DVD. Total projects may be 90 seconds.
I read Shane's article (2005) about the work flow of using P2cards on the "Civil War Documentary" and History Channel but wondered if there are many changes since that time. Technology moves at a fast pace! Many thanks for any help.
