Classic Ipod w/windows service pack 1?

I just upgraded from my 20G ipod to a 80g classic. The 20g was to small for all of my music.
My problem is that when I tried to upgrade itunes to the latest version for the 80g
I found out that I needed service pack 2 to install itunes 7.6. My problem is that my computer doesn't like service pack 2. I plan on buying a new computer in the near future since it is getting old but it is still a very good machine.
My question is can I still use my new ipod but just use an older itunes version that allows me to use service pack 1?

I am afraid not, iPod Classic needs iTunes 7.6 and its needs XP2

I have the 80 gb classic and was running it on Service Pack 1. I upgraded the ipod to new software, which now required the 7.6 itunes which I can't upgrade to unless I have Service Pack 2 which my computer won't allow me to install. I am now stuck with no ability to download from I tunes. Anyone have a solution??

Rickster....Why aren't you using service pack 2? I had too many problems with my computer when I installed sp2. Had to go back to sp1. From what I have been reading
I may have not followed the proper steps to install sp2. I'm going to try one more time tonight. I've got the install disk from Microsoft.

Yes. Upgrade to SP2 or SP3.

I wouldn't allow an XP computer with SP1 anywhere near the Internet.

I would also appreciate a solution to this problem without having to download any service packs. Normally I would reformat the iPod but the device isn't even compatible with the old itunes so I can't do that either...and I can't update itunes without downloading a service pack. What a mess.
