Is it a black CD, per chance? Something about the optical reader won't recognize black discs. I had a similar problem, but putting in another color worked fine.
I tried two. One was silver, and another was a blueish silver. I was able to use the black ones when I first got the laptop, but I really don't know if it will now, because I don't have any black discs right now.
It really stinks, because I've had the laptop a little less than a year 😟
Is anything else running on your machine running while you're attempting this? When I'm using Parallels to run Windows under emulation (for example), Windows gobbles up the CD access so that it never appears to show up on the Mac.
i had a similar problem, when in itunes does it say please insert a blank disc whenever u go to burn something then eject the disc. If this is the case what i did was as soon as the disc was ejected i pushed it back in this seemed to work for me.
Get over yourself. Do you honestly think that people are going to want to help you when you have that attitude. Grow up. People who answer questions on this forum do so free of charge and in their own time. No-one is under any obligation to answer any questions and probably wouldnt if everyone asking questions had the same attitude as yourself.
During the two months of having the problem, did you think about taking the initiative and calling Apple? Try that, they maybe able to help you, and if your MB is still under Applecare you may be able to have the drive replaced.

I re-updated the 2 MBs and the MBP with the 10.5.4 combo-update, changed to another brand of CDs - a short test on all 3 MacBooks/MacBookPro went ok,
