Itunes for Ubuntu Linux

I'm posting this here because there was no iTunes general discussion board.

I just switched over to Ubuntu, a popular Linux distrobution, and find out there's no iTunes for it? This is probably not a problem for most people, but it is for me. There's no real way to manage an iPod at all, let alone access the iTunes store, when using Linux. This seems unnecessary to me, considering the immense popularity of the iPod and iTunes.

iTunes is not supported on any variety of Linux. I cannot speculate on the reasons for that, although the problem is not the "immense popularity of the iPod," if you know what I mean. You can use the feedback page if you wish to give feedback to Apple.

As for the iTunes store, it can only be accessed with the iTunes application, and therefore is not usable with Linux. However, most online music stores, such as amazon.com, can be accessed within a normal browser so I'm sure you can find a way to buy songs.

It's a nonsense, I bought 2 ipod (one 5th gen and a new classic, 60 and 160 gb) and I CANNOT use it with my operating system! I know people at Apple really think to be better than MS guys but they act the same, not only they "forget" that another system it's used by a wide number of people in the world, but they also do things in a way one can't have a choice, I WANT to use iTunes, but they don't distribute a Linux version, I'm sure it's not so hard to do, OS X it's a Unix system so where is the problem?

They also caused me to have lost all the songs I put in my iPod with my notebook that has a Windows XP Partition just because I connected it to Linux and tried to put there some mp3, I had to re initialize the ipod (classic) that was unusable after this.

Just to clarify: I buy a lot of things on iTunes Store (90% of my ipod music), All my mp3 (10%) are from my own original CD so I want to use my iPod with my OS and not to have a separate Xp partition that I only use for iTunes and to play ONE PC Game (But this is a different problem) I can choose not to play the game but not to stop to use the iPod That I have paid to Apple ( I bought it on the apple store)

I know they say iTunes exist only for Mac and Win, btw I want to be free to use also MY OS so do something intelligent if really you are different from MS and realize also a Linux version iTunes please.
