iPod Hi-Fi: Can I charge my iPhone on it?

Is the Iphone supported by the iPod HI FI? I was at a friends and dropped my iPhone onto the HIFI to charge and was greeted with an unsupported message and the option to switch to Flight Mode.

Seems crazy that Apple would drop support this quickly?

It is supported if your iPhone has the current firmware level, but you need to put it into Airplane mode unless you want to hear a bunch of GSM buzz.
