Firmware update created chaos -- help!

Everything was working perfectly until I downloaded the firmware update the other day. Now my wireless mouse sometimes works, mostly doesn't, and often sends the text into spasms (suddenly shifting to the right, or wildly highlighting passages) that require quitting Safari or Word. This is also happening when I use the trackpad. Sometimes I will click on an icon to open a program and the icon gets glued to my cursor and follows me around the screen.

A few times I haven't even been able to force quit. And one time my computer started making a godawful noise, like it was wailing, until I had to shut down with the power button. I'm sooo sorry I downloaded this update and would like to hear from an Apple representative!

What sig is asking is are you sure the firmware update installed. Just downloading it from software update doesn't install it. What it does is place the installer in your Utilities folder (Applications - Utilities).
For your mouse problems I would try a PRAM reset. When you do it though, let it chime at least five times, instead of what Apple recommends.

No, I have to admit I was afraid because I'm in the middle of a big project didn't want to mess with anything major. I called Apple, and after trying several things, was told that reinstalling my OS should fix the problem. Does that make more sense than resetting the PRAM (which they didn't mention), or do you still think that's the answer? Today the problem got worse -- now my keyboard is doing weird things like typing one letter on top of another, or letters disappearing. I think this firmware update is bad news.

Thanks for your help!
