New M-Audio Beta driver for Revolution 5.1, OS X 10.4.11 and 10.5.2
For those working in 5.1 surround in FCP and have the
M-Audio card (PCI) for monitoring, we finally have a new driver.
Not perfect, as it is still BETA, but does work with OS X 10.4.11 and 10.5.2.
that is like true surround? cause I questioned about it on these discussion before and i was told it's not possible? Not that I doubt you, I'm so excited I can use that!!! is it as good as a firewire box?
If anyone is interested, here's a conversation with an M-Audio tech about some problems with the Revolution 5.1:
Kernel Panics and no Audio on Games

I have 2 games that I play but since I've installed the 5.1 and the beta release, I either have no audio or the game crashes before it starts: Doom 3 and Quake 4.
With Doom 4 I get NO audio at all. I have the graphics at it's lowest setting and tried to enable surround and the "EAX" feature. When I try to set the audio settings, it says it doesn't recognize the hardware. With Quake 4 I'll get sound, but I'll get "popping" or the sound will go on and off at small intervals. It too doesn't recognize the hardware. I've tried the setting from both the 5.1 software and Apples Audi Midi as well and get the same results. Could it be that the games don't support the 5.1 through the Apple hardware?

I recommend a clean install of the driver.
First uninstall the past version you had installed using that drivers uninstaller.
Then uninstall the BETA driver using its uninstaller.
After uninstalling all previously installed drivers go ahead and repair disk permissions on you system drive.
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > Select your system drive on the top left and "repair disk permissions"
Then go ahead and install the BETA driver only.
Please let me know how this works out. I will pass this information to our verifications department. Also please keep in mind that this is a BETA driver and we are working on releasing a fully supported driver.

I followed your steps. I had set the speakers to 5.1 and it has the same results, but 1: Quake 4 plays but only in stereo and in only 1 SIDE (left side of the speakers). Just to remind you, I'm using LOGITECH Z-5500 Digital Audio. 1 last thing in Quake 4 when I tried to set up an audio configuration it says that I don't have an "OPEN AL". I did some homework and downloaded an OPEN AL for MAC and still the same results.

The problem you are experiencing is a known issue, on other games you can install the "OPEN AL" file just by clicking on the file provided by the games. With quake the "OPEN AL" has been problematic.
Have you tested the card with other games?

No problems with Call Of Duty, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, ROTC: Enemy Territory, Quake 3 Arena, and Medal Of Honor. The sound comes out great, but I have the same problem like with all the games, not recognizing the required hardware for the EAX HD sound format.
It seems that the older games that require 10.2.X and above give me no hassle. It's only the current games like Quake 4 and Doom 3 give me the most problems. I hear that Quake 4 for the MAC is running on a "virtual Program" to run on a MAC as opposed to natively run on the MAC. Does that sound weird?
