Is it possible to use a mac mini as a tv-recorder? I have a beovision avant tv (USA) and would like to use the mini to record programs directly from the tv. There is a data port on the tv and am wondering if that would be used in this setup. Is there any software that would be needed .....Setup is cable without a cable box, directly to the tv.

thanks for the response. I know about eye tv but how would that hook up to the tv? The eye tv doesn't let you watch one program and record another...if I hooked the mini up to the tv I thought that I could watch a separate program while another was recording.... I can have two different programs on the tv at one time........that's the only time I'd want to record something and I have both a mini and the beovision and it might not cost more $$$ to do this. I just don't like the screen within a screen situation for a worthwhile program that demands serious attention and not just "glancing" viewing.
GRS,
I have a splitter in the antenna cable: one goes to the EyeTV and one to my TV. In this way I can use the TV to watch one channel while the EyeTV records another one.

Hi GRS ....saw your posts on Mac Support. I have a 32" Beovision Avant and bought a Mac Mini today to connect up and use as a media server. I also bought the Apple s-Video adaptor and an s-Video lead. When I fire up the Mac Mini, I see the grey start screen on the Avant then when I should get the log on screen I just fuzzy vertical black and white lines. Any tips as to how you got yours to work?
You might check in the Displays System Preferences (which may be hard to see) that you have the output set to PAL (Europe and other locations) rather than NTSC (North America) video (or vise versa depending on your location). I have my Mac mini connected to my TV through an s-video cable without issues.
