iTunes could not connect to the iPhone *sigh*

Hi -

I have the latest everything, iPhone software 1.1.4 and iTunes application v7.6.2.9. For a long time now, I've been sync'ing to this particular PC and iTunes, so its my go-to default/master/jedi machine. Through the numerous updates between iTunes and the iPhone, I started noticing this annoying error when I plug in my iphone to my PC:

iTunes could not connect to the iPhone ~~ because an error occured while reading from the device.

Now, I've never attempted to hack the phone ever, I decided to take the easy road and just try to work with the device and software. With this message, I don't think I can sync music since my iPhone icon never appears in iTunes.

Is there a fix for this?

Hey alexlee,

The issue is probably related to the USB connection. It could also be related to the iTunes installation or security software on the PC.

Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the PC and not plugged into a keyboard, monitor, or hub. http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1286

Make sure the Apple Mobile Device Service is running as described here:

Hi Jason -

No luck, I did have my iPhone plugged into the monitor, moved it over to the directly connected USB port on my PC. iTunes still didn't want to connect to my iPhone. Then I restarted the Apple service and restarted iTunes and it still won't connect 😟

Is there any debugging I can perform from iTunes to let me know why its not connecting?

Alex,

iTunes does have diagnostics which you can run from the Help menu.

Try completely uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and the Apple Mobile Device Service.

If the iPhone still does not show up in iTunes, the security software installed on the PC may be causing the issue. Try to temporarily disable it or uninstall it.

removed iTunes, Quicktime and the Apple Mobile Device Service and rebooted and iTunes is still failling to sync w/ this PC.

If we cannot figure this out, I'm going to lose all 500 songs and 10 audiobooks because of this. If you want to know why, follow this link it explains it all:

So, someone at Apple needs a way of debugging this, I never attempted to hack iTunes or the iPhone and I purchased everything from iTunes legitametly. This is going to be rediculous if I lose everything again, and yes, waaaay back in the day I lost everything.
