iTunes on iPhone question

I have a problem with the iTunes on my phone. Even when I am connected to a wifi network at full strength, I still get a message that says "cannot connect to iTunes". Does anyone know why this might be?

Gateway, Windows Vista, iPhone 8 GB

Hey legendofdon,

What's the iPhones IP address when its connected to the Wi-Fi network? Goto Settings> Wi-Fi> tap the blue (>) to the right of the network.

If the iPhone has a 169.254.x.x IP address, it will not be able to connect to the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58618
One thing you can try to resolve this is power-cycling the wireless router.

legendofdon,

The iPhone could be getting the 169.254.x.x IP address because of the network configuration. The network could have MAC address filtering enabled.

Make sure the iPhone has a MAC address, goto Settings> General> About> Wi-Fi address.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559 If MAC filtering is enabled on the network, add the iPhone Wi-Fi address to the filter.

If the iPhone has a MAC address but still cannot join, try Resetting the Network Settings from Settings> General> Reset.

If the iPhone still cannot join the network correctly it may be an issue with the network configuration. Try testing the iPhone at an Apple retail store http://www.apple.com/retail/

The phone does indeed have a 169.254.x.x IP address when I connect to any wifi network. I usually only connect to wifi in places that offer free wifi access. Could that have something to do with it?

For those "free" places...did you first try to get on the web and accept any TOS they may force you to accept before they "really" let you on?
