Iphone Ring Sound - Can you make it any louder????

Answering the phone in the middle of heart surgery is crucial??? Shouldn't his attention be completely focused on the patient and not whether he is getting a text message?

I Made my iphone louder by getting a needle and punching holes in the speaker on the bottom left. The speaker is covered by cloth, so i vented it. It won't damage the speaker is its too far in the phone. There are only so many holes you can make. Made my phone instantly louder. will not void warranty either. as its only cloth like material.

Here's a thought. You listen to the phone while the doctor performs surgery.

One suggestion was made a couple of steps up this thread.

It is hard to get around the size and volume constraints on a small device. How about docking it in a speaker system which supports the iPhone, like the Altec system

which allows the sound to be increased appreciably. I bet doctors can afford that. Plus the music will sound great. I know they listen to music while they operate. Seems like a solution to me.

I have found the Airforce Reserve Pipe and Drum Corps' rendition of "Scottland the Brave" to be a wonderful ring tone that can be heard under almost any condition.

oddly...the first ring from my phone is loud, then every following ring is much quieter which leads me to believe that the phone CAN be louder, then some limiter kicks in. there was that same issue on the ipod. then they enabled the volume control.

Hello Jmoody, in regards to ringtones for text messages you are only able to select from the selection offered by Apple, try the different tones and see if one may work. With the advent of the Software Development Kit there may be more options for SMS ringtones coming up soon.

Agreed when it comes to txt alert ringtone options. Since you can only use what they offer and cannot use custom made ones, I find the "Glass" one the best to get over background noise as it is a high pitched sound.

Outside of that, the speaker volume has been an issue for some. The only real way around it is the post about poking a needle through the film in the speaker holes (bottom left port...not the right as that is the microphone). Now this is not something one should really do lightly as it will void any support but from many blogs that went into depth with pictures and sound level readings, it does greatly increase the sound.
