Saving an email as a draft disappears in Mail!

Hey guys,

When I save an email as a draft, it doesn't show up in my drafts folder in mail even when it shows I have 2 saved. When I open the drafts folder to expand that mailbox, there are no messages to be found. However, I can navigate through Finder to the drafts folder and there I can retrieve the saved emails but I can't do anything with then, not even a copy and paste of the text. I can delete the emails from the drafts folder in Finder but nothing changes in Mail, even once I restart. What can I do to get rid of these mysterious emails in my draft folder? And once those are gone, how can I save emails so I can see them and use them?

I found that by navigating to the message with Finder (~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/Drafts(Gmail).mbox/Messages/) the message that I saved as a draft was in there, I double clicked it, and it opened it. I could copy and paste, and when I clicked "show in mailboxes" it did re-appear in my drafts area, although before I went through finder, it was missing.

Clearly this appears to be a bug... but finding it in finder was a successful work-around for me...

Hope this helps.

Hello to both,

For Big Steveo, open Home/Library/Mail/this account folder -- look to see if perhaps the Drafts folder has no extension. If a POP account, then the name should be Drafts.mbox for this folder. If you only have a folder named Drafts, rename it to be Drafts.mbox (assuming POP again). Mail can store to a folder that does not have the mbox extension, but then cannot display from it.

For NightHawk: please confirm location where you found the cited Drafts folder. If accessing as POP, the one where storing the drafts should not be in the Mailboxes folder, but in the POP account folder. If accessing as IMAP should likewise be in the IMAP account folder. In neither case should the name include (Gmail) if that is what you are reporting?

As soon as I start composing a draft to be sent via the Mail App, I get an error message syaing that the draft cannot be saved and indeed it is not saved. However, I can finish the message and " SEND" with no problem and it does appear in the "SENT" list. I can then click, read and save it as Text.

But the advantage of composing a draft for a later review is not there. Other people get duplicate drafts, I get none. Any help in understanding this bug would help. The "guiness bar guys" at the Apple Store dodge this issue.
