how do you reduce the pixels of an image to fit within certain requirements

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums

When you export photos from iPhoto as JPEGs you can set the pixel dimensions

While in iPhoto thy are maintained as full resolution so you can do what you want at any time in the future

Select the pic in the iPhoto Window and go

File -> Export

in the resulting dialogue you can resize:

use iPhoto and the export command - file menu ==> export - and export as a JPEG and set the pixel dimension

If you do not want to do that for some reason you will need another photo editor to modify them - Preview can do this - tools menu ==> adjust size - or any photo editor (Photoshop, PhotoShop elements, Etc)
