Can you run vst's from an external HD?

Hi there I have a few VSt's that I'm using in Logic 7.2: Predator, Blue, Massive, FabFiltor One @ V Station. I find that when I'm using say 3 Vsts its very taxing on computer and the Activity Monitor says that Logic is using 150% of my cpu and It keeps stopping mid flow saying that "Logic cant process all the sounds in time"
I know it's these VST's because in previous prodject b4 I got them I'm only using 50% of my cpu.

My question is Can I install my Vst's to an external hard drive and run them from there..If so would it solve my problem?

ps I'm not the most technical of us so please speak in semi laymans terms =)

Answer is... no.
The plug-ins can not be installed on an external drive.
Logic Pro scans for the plug-ins in a specific place.

The AU format plug-ins must be installed here...
HD / Library / Audio / Plug-Ins / Components <-- to be available system wide.
and, or, here...
HD / Users / user-name / Library / Audio / Plug-Ins / Components <-- to be available only to that one user.
Also, the plug-ins need to be "UB" (universal binary) to work in LogicPro 7.2. and above for Intell Macs.

Even if you could run them from an external drive, would it solve your problem?
No.
Some plug-ins make the CPU work harder, things slow down, fact of life.

Audio Unit yes thats right...sorry my bad =$
But thanx for the advice peeps. Since investigating further into this ive been informed about external devices (I forget the name as it was during an 12 hour studio sesh) that have your plugins ie reverbs compressors etc...as well as synths all in one box that wont tax my laptop nearly as much as the Audio Units 😉 I'm currently using.
