Reading Akai Sample CD's

Hi everyone ...

This is a question regarding the Akai Sample CD's. I am aware that you can import and convert the CD using EXS24 by clicking on options, then Akai Convert and then clicking on Convert Entire CD.

But the question i have is, how do i make Logic do the conversion and place the files on an external firewire drive instead of the hard drive on my powerbook?

I would like to use the AKAI sounds when my FW hard drive is connected - and i am assuming if the HDD is not connected, EXS24 sounds wont show up ...

If you have both chicken TRANSLATOR or CDXTRACT for mac then you can direct where each files foes (.exs or wave/aiff)

But the EXS24 doesn't give access like that

but you can always move the file after you've imported them

Direct it to save them to the FW Drive. Or move them later.

Correct. Unless you decide which sounds you want and then 'Save as Project' and include the EXS24 sounds in the project. (store the project on your internal drive.

Thanks for your response Timothy ... but there are no options to direct the conversion to the FW drive ... unless i am not looking at the right spot.

I tried moving the files after the import - the ones i moved were:

1. Folder full of exs files
2. Folder called AKAI samples

I hope these are all the files i need to copy over.

Now ... the problem is, how do i get the EXS24 to read those files? As soon as I move the files over, EXS24 doesnt even show that they exist - which is wierd.

Anyone have any experience with Sampletank 2 (free) to read AKAI files? And would i be able to do what i am trying to do here?

Ok now create alias and put the alias in the original place that exs24 created the akai folder(s) and files

Aaah - im new to Mac and i have seen that Alias option on drop downs ... not sure how it works but i will definetly experiment with it ... thanks for pointing me to the right direction 🙂 - will post again with a question if i run into any roadbloaks ... thanks again Stash !!!
