Insert Key / Overtype / Overwrite Mode

There is a mode in Microsoft Word that allows you to overwrite text where the cursor is. Instead of pushing the text to the write, the cursor will simply overwrite the existing text.

On PCs with Microsoft Word it is activated by pressing the "Insert" key.

I've been looking for this mode all over pages, through documentation and discussion forums, google searches, and I can't for the life of me find any evidence that this exists in Pages.

I want to use it in Pages! Can you help me?

That's actually not true. The Mac version of Word has this feature, and you can read about how to activate it here:

What is not true?

I thought that my message was clear enough, I was writing upon Apple's programs, not upon those writen here and there.

It's not surprising to see that from time to time, µsoft take care to give commun features to its products (but not always: VBA for instance).
But I'm really not interested by what they do.

My only concern here are Apple products.

You think that the described feature is a must. It is clear that for Apple engineers, itsn't and my guess is that we will have to live without it for years 😉

Hi Str1cken,
Yes in Word 2004 the lower right of a document has the OVR. Though I've known it's there I never use it. My preference is to highlight text then type.

Pages doesn't have OVR feature; highlight the text then type. Feature for feature Pages isn't intended to compete with Word. Also, Pages does things that Word cannot, same as WordPerfect does things Word cannot. That's not a bad thing it's just a thing; vender choice.

Be aware the folks on these Discussion boards are, as yourself end users not Apple employees.

Send feedback directly to the Pages team for enhancement requests: at the top of your screen to the right of the blue Apple please click Pages > Provide Pages Feedback. Explain in detail your desire for the OVR feature. This makes your request known to that team directly; don't expect to hear back from them. I've sent many as well.

Let's hope the next version of iWork incorporates many of the requested enhancements.

Thank you in advance for doing that.

Again, welcome to Pages Discussions, have fun here.

Sincerely,
RicD
