apple tv cannot connect to itunes to authorize (is connected)

This has happened to me twice now.

I buy/a rent a movie on my apple TV, it then copies the movie (by itself without me asking - all syncing is unchecked in iTunes) onto my computer (and then erases it from the ATV) I then try to copy (sync) it back again and receive the message ".....was not copied because apple tv could not contact the itunes store to authorize. please check your internet settings"
It IS connected to iTunes - I'm browsing the store now.....
It seems that we're now destined to watch the movie on the laptop instead of the massive telly.
