85W or 60W Magsafe?

I personally would not use one that is different to the one designed for it. I have heard that the 85W does work but I presume it coudl harm the battery.

I say stay safe and go for a 60W for Macbook and 85W for Macbook Pro

im using 85w with my macbook white, ive no problems so far, its been a year and a half already. And hour and half would charge by empty battery yet i can spend 2.5~3hours under normal operations with wifi.

FYI, it's safe to use the 85 W adapter with the MB; the MB will only draw the power it needs. It's also possible to use the 60 W adapter with the MBP, but in that case the MBP will not simultaneously run on AC and charge the battery. No damage will result either way.

Not sure about no damage. With numerous people fraying their power supplies, and undercurrent can create issues with electrical charging, I would no more put an 85W light bulb in a 60W lamp than an 85W power supply in a 60W machine.
Use the supply that is to spec. If you can't find one, there are alternative sources*:

Of course, a lamp doesn't have a microprocessor controlling the power input, which a laptop does...

Having said that, yes, it's certainly best to use the correct power supply.
