Import Entourage to Mail

If your email is an imap system, it's trivial -- you just point mail to the server and all of it will come in. If your folders are locally stored, it's not as trivial, but again if you have access to an imap account, you can just move or copy all your folders into that imap account, and then bring them into mail direct from the server. If you don't have imap, you'll have to export your email somehow, or use one of the tools you can find by searching on this board, which as I recall cost a few dollars.

Oops, please ignore my previous post. For some reason I thought this was a question as to how to import Outlook folders, not Entourage folders.

If I recall properly, there's an article in the current issue of MacWorld about this, but I think it's specifically about getting Entourage contacts from Windows to Mail. (I may be showing my ignorance here -- perhaps Entourage is a Windows-only program.)

Anyway, the goal is to get your info into .mbox format, a widely recognized standard that Mail understands. Entourage won't export to it, unfortunately. The workaround is to use FireFox to import your Entourage data, then export it again from FireFox in .mbox format. That should do it -- unless there's some critical step I've forgotten from the article.

I think the simplest way to import Entourage folders to Apple Mail is by drag-and-drop: just click on "Inbox" (or any other folder) in the left pane of the main Entourage window and drag-and-drop it to your Desktop. That way you just created a mbox-file that you can easily import to Mail. Let me know if it solved your question.

I just found an even simpler solution: just choose "Import accounts" in the File menu of Apple Mail. A window pops up letting you choose from options ranging from "Microsoft Entourage" to "mbox-file". Sometimes the answer is right in front of my nose and nevertheless I don't see it 😉
