How long does it take to charge Nano?

I connected my Nano to my iMac. It has been connected all afternoon. It still say's 'Do not disconnect.' It has a circle with a back slash. How long does it take before I can unplug it? I am new to ipods, and can't find the answer to my question in help. Thank you.

iMac Intel, Mac OS X (10.5.2), 2.4GHz, 20'' screen, 2GB memory

It takes about four hours to fully charge it. Sounds like disk use has been enabled on your Nano or you are manually managing your music. Next to the name of the iPod in iTunes click the eject symbol and when the Nano returns to its menu disconnect it.
