iphone doesn't show up in itunes

Randomly my iphone doesn't show up in itunes. I've tried unplugging and plugging back in, restarting, and using different usb ports and nothing helps. My ipod shuffle also doesn't show up so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with itunes. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks

There could possibly be an issue with iTunes but seems kind of weird that both shuffle and iPhone do not show up in iTunes.

I say this is weird because the shuffle and iPhone use 2 different sets of drivers that allow them to show up in iTunes. So weird both would have an issue.

You can try your basic uninstall reinstall of the following software below. If this does not work. My next guess to confirm if there is a hardware problem or not. Connect Shuffle and iPhone to another computer. And if they show up. Then the hardware is good. And could be again possible situation with the USB Ports on the computer or yes iTunes Software.

Remove the following programs

* Apple Software Update
* Apple Mobile Device Support
* Bonjour
* iPod Updaters
* Quicktime

and * iTunes, reboot. Download and reinstall iTunes 7.6.2.9

As far as iPhone goes. It could possibly be the Apple Mobile Device Support? But would not explain why shuffle is doing it. So I am guessing possible bad iTunes preference file?

Have you

1. Tried a new user account to see if the same thing occurs?

2. Tried Shuffle and iPhone on another computer to see if the same thing occurs?

Posted below is the link on how to remove Apple Mobile Device Support. May or may not help in this case but worth trying.

You may wish to contact iPhone Technical support for further assistance. They can help better diagnose what might be causing and if needed assist with pulling out bad preference.

The fact that it works fine in another computer. Shows you it is not your shuffle or iPhone but isolated to your personal computer.

So it could be hardware or software related. But it can only be isolated with troubleshooting. So contact iPhone Support they got excellent support agents that can assist further with this if you wish to get the assistance.

They close in the USA in about 10 min so you may or may not make it on time.
