Increase Fan Speed

How can I increase the internal fans in my computer? I only want like a 10% or so increase because the thing just gets so darn hot when I play games...Is there an easy way to control it so I can even create a script that when I have the game loaded it will increase their speed 10-20% and when I quit they will revert to default?

iMac 20inch 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.5.2), 8GB iPhone, iBook G4 1.13GHz Mac OS 10.5.2

Yeah just google Smcfancontrol and download ! You can up the fan speed and after you are done playing lower the fan speed and you are done.

Fan control software only increases the fans' idle speed. It's running speed is determined by how hot the computer gets. This is controlled by the computer's SMC firmware. You cannot make the fans go faster other than to increase the idle speed.

Download and install SMCFanControl: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/31029

With this program you can increase the default fan speeds. You can also create multiple presets for instance one for a slightly increased fan speeds which you may keep it at during normal use. Then have a another higher setting that you set it to when you are going to play games. This will require you to manually change the setting each time. It's easy enough to do though.

If you are not already I would recommend installing iStat Pro or Temperature Monitor so that you can monitor your iMacs internal temperatures. This will help you to determine the best settings for your fans.

What if I am not using an Intel based iMac? Is there a similar program I can use. My computer has been starting to put itself to sleep lately due to high temps.

With an iMac G5 and it's age I would take the back off and blow out all the dust to see if that helps any. You may find something useful in this link otherwise check over at the iMac G5 forum.
