About using Different brands of RAM memory and Final Cut?

Hi:

I have 5GB in my Mac Pro. The original 1GB that came from factory and aditional 4GB instaled on 4 dimms of 1GB.
I have a question, I wanted to expand the memory but I can´t find anyone in Mexico that sells Super Talent, wich was the ones they sold me at the shop, anymore.

My Question are:

1) Does it matter that if I use 4Gb more of Ram in a pair of 2gb each from another brand like Kingston or should I find more Super Talent memory?

2) Would 7GB of Ram would really boost up Final Cut or I am just gona waste my money on more Ram that I don´t need?

3) If I have the older Mac Pro can it use the 4GB dimms or not?

Thanks in advance:

Daniel Sametz.

Mac Pro 2006: 4 x 1GB is essential.

Best memory bandwidth: using a pair two DIMMs on each Riser; or 8 DIMMs to fill both Risers.

Any memory that meets FBDIMM spec for Mac Pro should be fine. I would avoid low price or questionable quality or support, in case it doesn't work. Most RAM will work, but there can be variations, even from the same vendor.

Kingston Mac Pro (I think "KVA") would be safe. I'd get 4 x 2GB or just 4 x 1GB for either 12GB or 8GB. If you also use a lot of large or heavy graphics work more RAM would help.

Put RAM in slots A1-2 and B1-2 as a matched quad-set though would be ideal.

It doesn't really matter what brand RAM you use. What is important for best performance is that you install the RAM in matched quads. Since you now have four 1 GB DIMMs installed in one Riser you should install four equally sized DIMMs in the second Riser. You can replace the two 512 MB DIMMs currently installed with four equally sized DIMMs or purchase two more 512 MB DIMMs. The latter would increase your RAM to 6 GBs.
