Show file location folder in iTunes columns? New to iTunes...

Hey folks. After years of avoiding both iTunes and iPods and, well, Apple, I've decided to give iTunes a shot in order to check out some apparently-iTunes-only tracks by one of my favorite artists.

So I installed iTunes, and an hour later it had imported my MP3 folder, which, hey, good deal. Except that "folder" is not one of the column choices... and I've got a couple hundred MP3s that don't have ID3 tags, or if they do, have only Song Title, not artist/album. Lots of these are old compilations, stuff pulled from Vinyl, demo recordings and studio mix track works...

They worked fine when I would just pull folders into, say, WinAmp, though, because I could a) sort them by filename & location, and b) just see the folder names in Explorer.

If I could show (and sort by) Folder/location in iTunes, this would work for me. If not, it gets baleeted, as it won't serve my purpose. I don't have the time to re-tag 500 MP3s.

Well, I told it not to copy music into its own folders, since I don't need... you know... 2 copies of everything. Also, the folders I have stuff in are just fine.

I have a folder called "Classical" and under it I've got folders for Bach, for Satie, etc... I've got a folder for Comedy, and under it I've got subfolders for rips of old LPs of Goon Show, Bob Newhart, etc.

I'm not sure how having folders and subfolders for stuff is "non-standard". Is this some sort of Mac thing I don't get? What is "standard"? Having all my MP3s in one big folder? That's just... INTENSELY stupid.

Also "Get Info" Doesn't really help when I've got folders of stuff that I've recorded myself, or ripped from local indie band CDs that won't be there for iTunes to Get Info on.

By default, iTunes copies all Library files into its own music directories. The reason there is no folder option is that all the tracks would essentially be in the same place.

I'm sorry if this is inconvenient for you, but the non-standard way you organize your music seems bound to cause problems. Remember that you can batch change things like artist and album in iTunes by selecting multiple tracks before doing a Get Info.

After reading so much online about iTunes 7 just erasing people's files with no logical reason, I've decided it's not even worth trying iTunes anymore. The inability to see files displayed by folder they're in, without editing hundreds of ID3 tags, is just so sad.

It's so "casual user", like for people who only started getting MP3s on their computer when they started using iTunes to buy or rip. It's just sad.

I've deleted the whole thing. Amazon MP3 sales and WinAmp ahoy.
