Ipod Software Version 1.1.2 has rendered Ipod useless

I've had troubles with new Ipod software every time I install it, I don't know why I installed another new crappy update that gives me nothing but pain and agony but here I am.

I have a 5th generation 160GB Ipod that has worked just fine and dandy up until today when I updated it to version 1.1.2. Now it tells me i need to restore my Ipod and when I do this, it goes through the restore process then tells me I need to restore my Ipod AGAIN! I've been through this neverending cycle at least 20 times. I've tried the new version, the old version. I've tried the 5 R's, I've restarted my computer twice. And still it continues in this same incessant loop.

Help?

No no no no no!
My nano ran on my cough workcough PC!

You need to go to computer management (right click 'My Computer', 'Manage').
Click on 'Disk Management'.
Select your ipod which should be listed in the right hand window.
Right click on the ipod, select 'Change drive letter and paths'.
Either Add or Change the letter to the next available drive letter.

I encountered a similar problem with my nano.
One thing I noticed was that the itunes interface stated that the ipods capacity was 'n/a'.
It turned out to be a simple(ish) drive designation, in that the computer didn't assign the ipod a drive name. All I did was designated the ipod a drive letter and it worked fine.
Unfortunately I don't remember how I assigned the drive letter, but will look into it and let you know if I find anything.

I am having the same exact problem! it comes up with a cannot read contents of ipod. restore... blah blah blah, we all get it. it will freeze up my itunes and other programs if i try to open them when it is plugged in.
I do not suggest sending it in for service. i did and they just sent it back to me telling me that nothing was wrong with it and they charged me like 60 bucks. that made me so mad.
Stupid itunes 7.6 is just crap.
I hope they fix it soon.
