iTunes automatically restarting after I quit it

Check for any iTunes-related widgets or third-party apps that relate to iTunes and disable them. See if that fixes the problem.

iTunes Helper you need, so don't disable that. I'm not sure what else it could be. Do you have the iTunes widget on your dashboard?

That widget is known to cause problems for some users. I would try disabling it and see if iTunes will behave.

Disabling the iTunes widget solved this problem on my iMac. Many thanks.

Disabling (turning off) the iWow plugin was not enough for me. I found multiple processes called genredetection that iWow had generated and after quitting all of them in Activity Monitor, iTunes now quits properly, even with iWow enabled.
