Boot Camp: Firewire Edirol FA-101 recognize like 61883 device

Hi,
I've a big problem... I've installed Windows SP2 (on a Mac pro with the last version of Leopard) under Boot Camp to use an *Edirol Firewire audio unit, the Edirol FA-101*.
The unit _is recognized NOT like a 1394 unit BUT like a 61883 peripheral_ (mLAN standard of Yamaha).
WHY???
The installation of Edirol drivers go ahead BUT in the "Control Panel" *I CAN FIND ONLY "REALTEK HD Audio Output" ..._no Edirol FA-101*_ channel Audio and MIDI IN/OUT _*to choose*_.

I think I'm NOT the only with a Firewire Edirol Audio Unit FA-101 that can't work under Boot Camp...
QUESTION: *Boot Camp has a fault with all 1394 Firewire peripheral units* ???

Someone could HELP ME???... *because I need to use this unit BOTH under Windows AND OSX*
Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to Discussions,

try this Microsoft Firewire patch for XP SP2 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ca0f2007-18b5-4112-8bd6 -8bf4bd3130b9&DisplayLang=en

Secondly, did you follow the installation procedures for the Edirol to the letter ?

Most, if not all, Firewire devices that needs Drivers require that you first install the drivers before attaching the device to the computer.

Thanks a lot Stefan,
yes... I've followed the installation step "to the letter"... I've done several installation of the Edirol FA-101 on many Windows PC.
This is the first time I've have a problem...

At the beginning, first, I've tried to install under VMWare BUT VMWare DON'T SEE ANY Firewire port... only USB port... so, I've choose to install Windows under Boot Camp.
I think that there is SOME PROBLEM WITH THE Apple's DRIVER used with Windows under Boot Camp...

Now, I'll try to install Firewire patch and I let you know.

Other suggest?

Thanks... done but no positive changes

I've to add some data:

If I go watch at all Peripherals and I see the list of Peripheral "FOR TYPE" I can find the Edirol device under a "subclass 61883" BUT... BUT if I choose the hardware list of Periheral "FOR CONNECTION" (ooops) I'll find:
PC multiprocessor ACPI
--> Compatible system ACPI Microsoft
_--> Bus PCI
____--> Intel(R) 631xESB/6321ESB/3100 Chipset PCI Express Root Port 3 - 2694
_______--> Adapter PCI standard from PCI and PCI
_________ --> Cotroller host Texas Instruments IEEE 1394 compatible OHCUI
____________--> EDIROL FA-101 Sub
______________--> EDIROL FA-101

* IMPORTANT *
At this point I think that the problem is NOT that Windows recognize a 61883 device, because it happens ALSO on several PC I've tested in this few days.

Have you got any idea?

Please, someone know a friend that use the Edirol FA-101 on a Mac Pro that could make a small Boot Camp partition TO TEST the installation process under Windows XP SP2?

Someone know if Apple have tested (in the past) A MATCH with Boot Camp + Windows driver take on Leopard DVD + the latest Roland/Edirol drivers (take on www.rolandus.com (called "EDIROL FA-101 Driver Ver.1.0.2 for Windows XP")???

I ask your HELP and want to thank you in advance.

Have a nice day.

Hi,

I really am at a lost of tips for this one.
The IEC 61883 protocol is a standard for streaming audio and the FA-101 does comply to that standard.
Nonetheless it should be able to gain access to the Ins and Outs of the Edirol through the Control Panel either of Windows or of the Edirol Mixer app (if there is such one).

It could indeed be a problem with the Texas Instruments Firewire chip used in the Mac Pro and the Edirol.
But I can't find any mentioning of such an incompatibility nor anything else with problems between Mac Pros/TI-FW chip and the Edirol and/or PCs with the Edirol.

Sorry

OK my friends... I've a news.

I've found that when the installation proccess is going to finish there are some things that should be added in System Startup global entry but "somethings" makes that will not be able to be added anyway.

I've have an idea, but I don't know that could be true... is there a possibilities that REALTEK DRIVER makes a check about new changes in the Sound Control Panel and "roll -back" to a certain condition, deleting new entry in the System startup?

So, this is what Ive found:

(1) ---------------------------------
Change done by the Edirol installation process (it could be this way): value "MSPQM" (new data: "rundll32.exe streamci,StreamingDeviceSetup {DDF4358E-BB2C-11D0-A42F-00A0C9223196},{97EBAACB-95BD-11D0-A3EA-00A0C9223196},{ 97EBAACB-95BD-11D0-A3EA-00A0C9223196}")
But it has deleted by "something": value "MSPQM" (new data: "")

(2) ----------------------------------
Change done by the Edirol installation process (it could be this way): value "WDM_SPLITTER1" (new data: "rundll32.exe streamci.dll,StreamingDeviceSetup {2F412AB5-ED3A-4590-AB24-B0CE2AA77D3C},{9B365890-165F-11D0-A195-0020AFD156E4},{ 6994AD04-93EF-11D0-A3CC-00A0C9223196},C:\WINDOWS\INF\WDMAUDIO.inf,WDM_SPLITTER.I nterface.Install")
But it has deleted by "something": value "WDM_SPLITTER1" (new data: "")

(3) ------------------------------------
Change done by the Edirol installation process: value "MSPCLOCK" (new data: "rundll32.exe streamci,StreamingDeviceSetup {97ebaacc-95bd-11d0-a3ea-00a0c9223196},{53172480-4791-11D0-A5D6-28DB04C10000},{ 53172480-4791-11D0-A5D6-28DB04C10000}")
But it has deleted by "something": value "MSPCLOCK" (new data: "")

Now, I don't know what exactly is... I have to think about it... but IF SOMEONE HAS AN IDEA... LET ME KNOW ASAP.

Thanks

Hi,

FYI - I tried the patch: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ca0f2007-18b5-4112-8bd6 -8bf4bd3130b9&DisplayLang=en

and it fixed the problem for me. I can now select my Edirol FA-101 as an audio output or input device. Also, I found that I had to select it as the default device under Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Audio before it would be available in SONAR Producer 7.

Thanks,

Alex
