Trackpad not working in windows XP

I had this problem I found if I clicked "rollback driver" (under properties) then "update driver" then it installed correctly.

Im still unable to use the click 😟

The answer is at the bottom of the page. I did change a little of it at the end. To summarize, here is the answer:

-Go to Device Manager
-Under Human Interface Devices you have an Apple Trackpad listed change this driver to USB Human Interface Device
-Properties
-Driver (tab)
-Update Driver
-"No, not this time" (radio button)
-Next
-"Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" (radio button)
-Next
-Dont search, I will choose a driver to install" (radio button)
-Next
-USB Human Interface Device
-Next

At this point the trackpad began to work, but it was not seen as the multitouch trackpad, so I inserted the Apple restore disc that came with the MacBook Pro and did a "Repair" of the drivers. After a reboot it recognized the trackpad as multitouch and it used the correct Boot Camp driver.

Hopefully this helps someone else.

I have the 2008 Macbook pro model. Installed windows xp through boot camp. But the trackpad's multitouch function is not working.

I can scroll using 2 fingers but click is possible even with single finger. i.e no left click and no right click.

Please help.

I ran into this problem after restoring an XP Pro (SP3) image built from a MBP 17 Mid/Late 07 to a MBP 17 Core 2 Duo (using WinClone.app). Perhaps the touchpad driver was incompatible, requiring me to manually perform the steps you posted?

[Both MBP had 10.5.4]

IF you did as I have, this may help. I am using an image created from a single MacBook to go on to others. This master MB does not have Boot Camp 2.1 installed on it. Next Windows XP does have service pack 3 installed. When I put this onto other Mac Books that do not have Boot Camp 2.1 I run into issues.
After cloning or installing install Boot Camp 2.1 on the Windows side. Next follow these instructions to fixed the nonfunctioning Mouse Pad.

-Update Driver

Similar problem... brand new MacBook Pros (24 of them). Dual booting Leopard and XP SP3. Trackpad works fine on all but 2 on the XP side...no functionality whatsoever. Tried Wildcat87's suggestion without any luck. Finally got it working on both by doing the following:

Go to Add/Remove Programs. Down at the bottom in the Windows Driver Package section, remove Apple Trackpad, Apple Trackpad Enabler and Apple Multitouch (not Apple Multitouch Mouse). Restart the computer. Insert the Mac OS X Leopard install DVD (the one that came with the MacBook). Right click on the DVD and choose Explore. Navigate to D:\Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple. Install AppleTrackpadInstaller and AppleMultiTouchTrackPadInstaller. The trackpad should work after installing the first one; the second one is just for good measure. I think it adds extra functionality. Of course, this is all much easier if you've got a spare mouse to plug-in!

Hope this helps someone out there... as it has taken me the better part of 2 days to get it working.

The process described above, also works if you select the Apple multitouch and multitouch mouse for the 2 affected items that appear "Trackpad", instead of "USB Human Interface Device" (possible you may stil need to select the usbhid first then reset to multitouch to make sure multitouch works properly first, I haven't tested this, I followed the above instructions then reset to the correct multitouch and multitouch mouse options)

This is the solution that worked for me with one change. I first installed it as USB Human Interface Design but I wasn't able to right-click. I then changed to Apple Multitouch and everything appears to be back to normal. I first tried the solution offered by LisaLisaLisaLisa (see below) and that did not work for me. Note that I also first downloaded and installed Bootcamp 2.1 as suggested by Wildcat87 below.

NOTE: External mouse highly recommended. I found this very hard to do without an external mouse. I relied completely on keyboard shortcuts to navigate through the folders which is very time consuming.

where i need to install bootcamp, from windows OS or from mac os.
Is that OK, if i download bootcamp2.1 working on MAC,
or do i need do i need to be in XP to download bootcamp2.1

For me to fix this trackpad issue on our school Macbook 2.4, I had to combine both methods by Teresa & LisaLisaLisaLisa (thank you both) :
a) Go into Control Panel/Add Remove programs
b) Remove Apple Trackpad, Apple Trackpad Enabler and Apple MultiTouch (not Apple Multitouch Mouse)
c) After rebooting Macbook into Windows XP, insert the Mac OS X Install disc and explore and go into D:\Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple. Install AppleTrackpadInstaller and AppleMultiTouchTrackPadInstaller.
d) Use the first mentioned method:
-Go to Device Manager
-Under Human Interface Devices you have an Apple Trackpad listed change this driver to USB Human Interface Device
-Properties
-Driver (tab)
-Update Driver
-"No, not this time" (radio button)
-Next
-"Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" (radio button)
-Next
-Dont search, I will choose a driver to install" (radio button)

For me, even though it started working without doing a "Repair" but I would still suggest you to do this. It will recognise the trackpad as multitouch and use the correct Boot Camp driver.
So to finish up, insert the Apple restore disc that came with the MacBook and do a "Repair" which will repair all of the drivers. REBOOT. DONE.

I thought my track pad was messed up because I couldn't right click. I could scroll with two fingers but the double tap function was not working. well I don't know how to make the tap function work but I figured out that you can right click by holding two fingers on the pad and then clicking the button. If you didn't already know this then I hope this made your day a little better...

How do you do this fix if the trackpad doesn't work? I moved my Boot Camp partition from my MacBook (late 2006) when I upgraded to a newer (late 2008) MacBook Pro. I am able to boot into Windows XP now, but the mouse pointer does not move when I touch the trackpad. I tried with a USB mouse also - no success. How do I "click" on a user name to log in, so that I can get to the Control Panel, as described here? I am stuck at the blue "Welcome" screen with no way to move forward. What do I do?
