ive been looking for hours to find where it is saved. its not where i thought it should be. im trying to export it to another macbook pro. and its not in keychain.
..does anyone understand the problem. or do i need to reword it.
Connect to your wireless router and get it from the wireless setup screen.
the problem is we dont know the key so we cannot log onto the router
1. What router?
2. Have you tried a factory re-set on it? (That brings it back to original settings).

here is the story. one of our users lost their home WEP password and we need to find the file containing that password and the SSID to import in to their new laptop. the file is not in keychain. the problem is this, the user in not computer savvy in any way and cannot navigate after their router in reset so we need to find this file ( i am not staying at the office until the user gets home and walk him through it at 8pm) would either of you know where that file could have gone off to?

Connect the laptop to the router using a LAN cable.
Log in to the router.
Either get the existing key or create a new one and save it in a safe place this time.
If you also don't know the router password, reset the router to factory specs and start over.
1. Go to Finder, Applications, Utilities, Airport Utility
2. Open Airport Utility
3. Highlight the base station by clicking on it (turns blue)
4. Select Manual Setup
5. Select “BaseStation” selection in menu bar
6. Select “Equivalent Network Password
View your WEP Code

Tell him to bring in the router and reset (hard reset) and then set it up again. The irony here is that hackers are able to bypass the WEP key in under a minute while you cannot connect at all. You do know WEP is for all intents and purposes, no security at all?
