Recording from the Internet

Hi! So I am a first time garageband user, and I cannot figure out how to record sounds off the internet.

For example, with Windows and Adobe Audition, I could play a youtube video and record the audio into adobe and be able to edit it. However, every time I try to do it with garageband it does not pick up the audio unless it does through the outside mic, which is not what I want either.

I've tried downloading "sunflowerbed" as a suggestion I saw online, but that isn't working either.

I need to be able to get clips of online audio for work, and I cannot figure out how to record it with garageband.

Any clues how to do so? Any suggestions are helpful!

Thanks, Carissa

Audio HiJack Pro ($39.99) is available online. It is for Macs.Use it to copy streaming audio from the internet, say, You Tube. This can then be placed in your iTunes folder. Unfortunately, GarageBand is unable to make use of streaming audio. I believe that the file has to be a midi file.
Good luck!

Soundflower DOES work for this.

You need to make sure that the inputs/outputs are set properly in System prefs, and in GarageBand prefs.

In System Preferences > Sound > Output, choose Soundflower (2 ch) -- Don't change the System input
In GarageBand > Preferences >Audio/MIDI, choose Soundflower (2 ch) for Audio Input -- Don't change the Audio output

In GB, you also need to record into a Real Instrument track, and turn on the monitor on the track so that you can hear what is being recorded.

Hit record in GB, then hit Play in the youtube video

Okay i tried using sunflower how you recommended, and I do believe it did record something. How do I turn my monitor on as I'm recording so I can hear it? Also what settings do I have to have it on if I want to hear the recording while I'm editing it?

Also:
Will I always have to change these sound settings back and forth everytime I want to do this?
I should be using podcast for this right?

Oh and thanks so much for answering all these questions!
