Suddenly I am unable to text one person who is in my address book (also an iPhone user on AT&T). Phone number is entered correctly (10 digit) and he can text me.
However each time I try to text, I get an error message back with the above number and message: (number) Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobil number or valid short code.
The number could not be more accurate. And texting did work until a few weeks ago.

The format that you posted for the subject is not correct. The 1 at the beginning does not count as one of the 10 digits. you are missing a number. this is the correct format... 1 (123) 456-7890
I was having this problem only with numbers that have the same area code as me. The SMS app was stripping off the area code.. so only using a 7 digit number when I tried to text someone in my contacts. What worked for me was to delete the contact from AddressBook on my mac, sync, add it back again, and sync again. Then all worked fine.
I've been getting this error often as well, but only with a couple contacts. It only happens if I reply to a text message though - I can send a message successfully if press "Messages" to go back to the main SMS view and press the compose button and then send a message.
1. Correct the contact's phone number so it in the format *(xxx) xxx-xxxx*.
2. From the
Home Screen, press the
SMS button.
3. Press the
Edit button in the top-right corner.
4. Locate the conversation with the contact that failed.
5. Press the circular, red and white delete button located to the left of the conversation.
6. Press the red and white
Delete to the right of the conversation.
You should now be able to send your text message.
Worked with AT&T tonight and we had noticed that manually entering the contact's phone number would work successfully. Also, a new contact with the same, full phone number exhibited the same behavior AND had used the same conversation window which led us to deleting the conversation. Make sure the conversation is deleted, not cleared.
This bug still exists in iPhone software version 2.1 .
