mini to sony SXRD 50" Rear Projection TV KDS-R50XBR1 dvi-hdmi not centered

hey guys it just got through hooking my mini up to my sony hdtv. i have it run through a dvi to hdmi, when the mac powered on it auto detected my display, it looks like its in 720. the only problem is that the picture is not centered its about 3 inches to the left, to where you can see a black band on the right of the desktop. i tried a vga but the picture was really small. thanks alot guys!
