Opening Pages doc in TextEdit

Opening Pages doc in TextEdit

Hello,

When I drag-and-drop a Pages doc onto TextEdit, I get the message:

"file could not be opened because the specified format is not supported"

I'm surprised, since there's no problem opening Word docs. Does anyone know why?

iBook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Pages' file format is like nothing used by Word, TextEdit, or any other text editor or word processor. Pages is the only program that can open a Pages document.

roberto,

You can always click on File > Export > Word, then open that in TextEdit -- although I'm not sure why you're so keen on opening a Pages file in TextEdit.

My guess is that roberto received Pages documents but doesn't own Pages;-)

Is there any way to batch process a bunch of Pages docs this way? We decided to switch from Pages to Nisus Writer Pro when we bought a new iMac and are frothing at the mouth over the necessity to open each Pages document individually to copy and paste the text into Nisus.
