USB Network Driver for RCA DCM425 Cable Modem

I wanted to use my mini as a home server. In order to do so I had to keep the ethernet jack free to connect to a Gbe switch. Through my searching on the net I found this driver:

Even though my modem was not listed as one of the compatible devices I gave it a shot, and low and behold it worked! I assume it uses the same AX8817x or similar chipset. The downstream bandwidth was effected slightly by using the USB en lieu of the RJ45 connection (7500 kbps vs 9989 kbps). However, I don't notice the difference in performance.

I plan to post my settings for others interested in the process, but for now I hope this helps someone else trying to do the same.

Ipnetrouterx is another offering from this company as well but I find the price a bit too steep ($100) when I can configure my own firewall settings manually.

I thought I would share my experience as I could not find anything in my searchings on the net.

FYI:
Oh, and I tried it on a MacBook with Leopard 10.5.2 as well it work too.

Follow up . . . It appears I did not get off too easy. The driver works for about 20 minutes and then drops off (about 1/2 the time reconnects). I'm not sure if this is a problem with my computer and/or the driver or my Cable Modem itself and the USB connection. I need to test the same connection with a Windows PC and see if it occurs again. Hopefully it is just an issue with my Cable modem and I can swap it with the provider.
