Safari 1.3.2 importing bookmarks from Fire Fox

I want to go back to Safari after a while in Fire Fox.
I'm on 1.3 there for there is no "Import bookmarks" option under the 'File' menu.
I've got the bookmarks exported from Fire Fox as html but I can't figure out how to import them.

I tried dragging the file into the bookmark collections but it just creates a link to the file on my desktop.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

There is an import function in the 1.3 version of Safari, but it's hidden by default. To enable it, quit Safari, and then type this into the terminal:

defaults write com.apple.safari IncludeDebugMenu 1

With that done, launch Safari and it will have a Debug menu (on the very far right), which will contain the import bookmarks option.

Give that a try. Good luck!

Hello, I found this post by doing a search and it is exactly what I was looking for. However having never used Terminal before, I wonder if you could give me a little more info about the exact steps I shuold take. Simply typing the line in the shell that opens with terminal doesn't seem to do the trick. Should I type it in a new command? I'm scared to mess anything up so I thought I'd ask before I do something I might regret. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi there,

Did you press return after typing the command? Nothing will appear to happen after pressing return, other than the command prompt returning to the default ready for a new command to be entered.

If Safari was running while you performed the terminal command you need to quit it via Safari menu > Quit (or press command+q when Safari is the active application) and then relaunch it.

There's not too much you can do wrong or break with this command so don't be too afraid 🙂
