Static IP and Bridge Mode

I have a static IP address and an AX connected directly to the ISP. I cannot access the internet from my computers wirelessly connected to the AX (including a mac server, mac, and PC) unless AX is in Bridge Mode only. Is this normal?

As you know Bridge Mode turns off the AX firewall, but I would rather use "share Ip address" mode and use AX's firewall rather than use software firewalls on every computer. Is this possible? If so why can't I connect to the internet via this mode? (If I let AX automatically obtain a dynamically assigned IP address the internet works fine in "share" mode.)

As far as I know. I called the ISP and verified that my static IP was what they told me it was, and the static IP seems to work as long as my AX is in bridge mode and configured manually to my static IP address. But if I let the AX automatically configure it the IP address, it will obtain a dynamically assigned IP from the ISP and work in "share IP address" mode.

I'm having a problem similar to that of johnthomjr. I live in an apartment with direct ethernet lines and a static IP. My PowerBook is configured properly for hard-wired access, and the connection is active. However, now that I hooked up the AX and set it up to share a public IP via DHCP (as 10.0.1.x addresses), the computer isn't able to connect properly ("There was an error joining the wireless network") and doesn't get a 10.0.1.x address. I assume I have configured some setting incorrectly, but I've gone through it at least half a dozen times and can't figure out what it might be.

To make it all even more confusing, despite a flashing orange light on the AX (indicating a lack of internet access, or so I thought), my iPhone is able to join and use the AX network to connect to the internet without a problem.

Any ideas? I'm perplexed.

Thanks for the reply. I have a static IP, subnet, router IP, and DNS server addresses as given to me by my ISP. (They have a router in the building that issues the individual addresses.) And yes, the PowerBook is configured with that static IP. I tried changing to the Automatic location (which is not configured this way) to avoid any conflict with trying to use the same IP address, but that didn't seem to work either.
