Airport Extreme and Nintendo DS WiFi Connection

I am seeking "cook book" solutions to get our Nintendo DS devices to connect to our Apple Airport wireless network.

I have visited the Nintendo DS website http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/enna/ds/routers/Apple/AirportExtreme/index.jsp and do not completely understand their instructions.

Any attempts to change what I have in my Airport configuration to what is listed at the Nintendo DS website causes me either to lose my Airport configuration (and hence connectivity) or disables the encryption.

Any help would be welcomed!

Thanks in Advance

Well, the DS is using pretty old technology, so you're going to have to be willing to work with it- you can only use WEP, you have to make sure that the router is broadcasting B and not only G (or N of you have a newer one), and I'm pretty sure you also can't make the network invisible.

I have my Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) set up with my DS with the mac address restriction list and a wep key for security, which aren't the strongest security out there, but it's what'll work with the DS. I also have my AEBS set up to broadcast both B and G.

So let's see here...

You have to set a WEP key and, if you're having trouble finding the actual code (which you need to input in the DS) you'll need to use Keychain to get it (I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I think you have to go into Keychain and select one of the Airport listings and double click it and type in your password to make it appear for one time only).

Also, check to make sure the AEBS is set up to broadcast B (802.11b) because the DS uses only B- it's older and slower, but that's why routers are set up to send out a mixed signal of B, G, and/or N, so that your computer can connect with G or N, but the DS will connect with B.

You should probably also set up a mac access list, which only allows those computers/devices whose MAC addresses have been input onto a list- you can find the MAC address of the DS somewhere in the internet settings, and you can search on Google for how to find it on your mac if you need to.

I hope this helps, because I'm no expert, but I have gone through the same thing of trying to set up my router with the DS. Good luck, and let me know if you have any more questions (and maybe someone with more expertise could post something else as well if you provide more specific information)

The Nintendo DS and DS lite are 802.11b/g so you shouldn't be any problem connecting to a "g only" configured base station.

The big limitation is that neither of the devices support WPA or WPA2 encryption.
