Trashing AddressBook-v22.abcddb

My search feature in Address Book fails to find all possible matches. (In fact, I can be looking at a contact's name in the Contact Column, but when I search for that name, Address Book's search feature doesn't find the contact.) It seems that other posters have solved this problem by going to: userhome>Library>Application Support>Address Book>AddressBook-v22.abcddb and then trashing AddressBook-v22.abcddb. This makes me nervous do I really just delete this file? or is a backup required prior to taking an action

I think that file contains all the address book data and deleting it will empty the address book. I certainly wouldn't just trash it. Move it to the desktop if you want to experiment. Another thing to try is to archive the whole Address Book and
move the folder userhome>Library>Application Support>Address Book to the desktop.
when you start Address Book it will be empty and you can import your archive to it. This might solve your problems.
Also, trash anything in homedirectory/Library/Cache related to Address Book.

Finally, when you are doing any of this, make sure that Address Book and Mail are not running.
