Phone Charging, Power Surge problem

My phone died last night, I plugged it into USB connection on computer this morning like i always do when charging. While it was charging i tried to turn it on to check my messages. It did not work so i unplugged it to turn it on, it still would not turn on. I tried to plug it back into the computer and recieved the message "Power Surge on HUB Port, USB device exceeded power limits of Hub port." Now my phone won't even pull up the apple symbol when i push the power button... how do i 1. turn my phone back on, and 2. charge it?

Interesting.

Power surges are normally associated with AC power, i.e., power from the household wall plug.

Power from the USB hub port is DC power, which is somewhat immune to a power surge for numerous reasons including the fact that the computer input is 99.999% protected from AC surges by the built in surge suppressor which is part of all computers that are manufactured. The power supply takes the AC power signal and converts it to DC.

Did the computer or the USB hub fry - it should have if it got all the way to the iphone?
