How do I get video from a Samsung SC-DC173 into iMovie?

There are some very good advisors in this forum who helped me get video from a JVC Eviro into iMovie, so I'm hoping for similar saavy on this issue.

I have a Samsung SC-DC173 video camera that records directly to mini DVD's which my Mac won't read due to its vertical slot drive. The camera comes with a usb plug that the iMovie '08 manual says is supposed to allow Mac to input the movie. Unfortunately, my Mac doesn't "see" the camera when its plugged up through the USB. I figured it might be a driver issue, so I went to the Samsung site and tried to download a driver. The only driver they have available to download is only for Windows PCs. Any suggestions?

Mac desktop, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

I admit that I'm not a techie, but I'm not that bad 🙂
I did finalize the disks, and they play fine on DVD players. I have tried to import the info into the computer through the USB cord, but like I said, the computer won't import anything because it can't "see" the camcorder as a device connected to it. It doesn't recognize that anything is attached at all. Which is why I thought it was a driver problem. I've been searching the internet for a Mac driver, but so far no luck.

i have the same problem with my sc-dc164 samsung. it was a gift when i had a pc but now that i have a macbook i have the hardest time getting the movies over. right now i have to use my dvr to record the movie on the hard drive and then burn it on to a dvd then use a dvd ripper software to put it into imovie. that is the the only way that i found so far. i think that there is a device that you can buy that plug into your usb that goes from rca to usb. i am not sure if and how well it works. i think it is around $100 depending on where you go and the brand. if you do decide to use a dvd ripper software be careful of which one you buy online. i read that some of them have spyware in them. i used iskysoft but the first movie that i converted to mpeg ended up miss tracking the audio. I hope that this gives you some help. my best suggestion is to buy a new camcorder so far all that i have read with the samsungs is that they are not mac friendly.

Im looking for the same answer. I have a Sony digital camcorder. The Mac knows the camcorder is connected but it dose not read the images or video. A icon will show with a date but it will not open it. States the disc is empty. I recall on the PC that I had before I had to download codec mpeg so it would be able to read the video images. ????
