big tables - sluggish

Hello,
I'm trying pages on my new mac. One work project involves making a table, 11 columns x 10 rows. Because of the size of the document I enlarged the document size in page setup, to 21" wide. The entry of text into the cells gets very sluggish after I work with it a few minutes. There's a lag in the typing. Makes it difficult to use. I tried this a few times, restarted, closed all the other applications- no improvement. Seems to be related to increasing the size of the document- I tried making a sample doc on a single (regular sized) page, just three columns- and it works fine. I took a look at the activity monitor and it shows that when I'm trying to enter text in the big table, the CPU usage goes way up- to 90%. With the small table it's much lower- 30 or 40%. I'd like to be able to see my entire table in one document. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks-
